Formula 1-based energy project zooms ahead

HI-TECH engineering firm Williams Advanced Engineering has been given a cash boost for its groundbreaking technology.

The Grove-based business that commercialises Formula 1-based technologies is developing one of 30 green energy projects that will share a ?16m grant from the Department of Energy and Climate Change?s Energy Entrepreneurs? Fund.

The money will be used for further work on its flywheel-based energy storage system, already used in hybrid buses. The company hopes it can be installed on a power grid within two years.

Williams chief executive Mike O?Driscoll said: ?It?s encouraging to see the Government support clean technology entrepreneurs in this way.?
